Ruqyah is recitation of the Quran and authentic duas for healing and protection. The Prophet ﷺ performed Ruqyah and approved it as long as it contained nothing of shirk. The best Ruqyah is the one you do for yourself with conviction — here is how to begin.
Before you begin
- Be in a state of wudu and sit in a clean, quiet place.
- Renew your trust that healing comes only from Allah — the words are the means, He is the Healer.
- Guard your five daily prayers; Ruqyah works best alongside a steady connection with Allah.
Verses commonly recited
- Surah Al-Fatiha (seven times) — the Prophet ﷺ called it a Ruqyah.
- Ayat-ul-Kursi (Al-Baqarah 2:255).
- The last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285–286).
- Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas (three times each).
- Verses of healing, such as Al-Isra 17:82 and Ash-Shu‘ara 26:80.
Preparing Ruqyah water
Recite the verses above softly over a bottle of clean water, blowing gently into it after each recitation. Drink from it daily and, if you wish, add some to your bathing water. You can do the same with olive oil and use it to massage the head and chest.
Be consistent and patient
Spiritual healing is often gradual. Keep a daily routine for at least three weeks, continue any medical treatment you need, and avoid anyone who asks for haram practices in the name of cure.
